« Assessing the impact of our prison coaching programs is crucial for three reasons: to enable the evaluation and improvement of our pedagogy, to ensure the sustainability of public funding, and to help us raise private funds to finance our action. This was difficult to achieve, especially because it was not possible for Improve’s trainers to enter detention and help us carry it out, even partially.
So, we opted for a comprehensive training course to introduce us to the theory of impact assessment, and data collection and analysis. We are now able to develop our own impact questionnaires for the beneficiaries of our programs, to collect the data ourselves and to produce impact studies that are credible enough to convince our partners.
I appreciated the variety of the content and practices learned, the flexible support we received, and how Improve understood our needs. The Improve team was immediately in touch with our social mission: to contribute to transforming the prison system from a punitive to a restorative one. A job that simply could have been left up to us aroused great involvement on their part. They should be thanked.
